CORE is back for one more round of exciting classes at Melville!  See our classes below beginning right after April vacation on April 24, 2019!

 Animation to Green Screen- with Elaine Carreiro

Wednesday class April 24 – June 5, 2019 No class May 29, 2019  –  This exciting new class mixes things up a bit by combining stop motion animation with a green screen by Do Ink! Students will delve into character creation, animation planning through storyboarding, and stop-motion through pixilation. Then they will transport themselves to fantastical places with production methods and the use of a Green Screen. Team work and using your imagination are the only requirements! Spring into Theater Arts and Performance! – With Gloria Crist  

Thursday class April 25 – May 30, 2019. –  This class covers all the basics of theater arts and then some! Using the building blocks of acting and theater work- PLUS, a focus on vocal performance and movement. Beginners and those who have experience will benefit from this 6 week total engagement of Theater Arts and Performance. A mini showcase for friends and family highlights this class at the conclusion.

The CORE organization is pleased to offer after school arts to all the students of Melville Elementary School beginning January 28, 2019!

 

CONSTRUCTING W/WOOD – BLOCK PLAY FUN with Lawre Goodnow For students in grades K-2 (class minimum 10, maximum 15)

Class held on Mondays – dates are 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/25, 3/4, & 3/11

Cost per student is $62.50

Students will use observation, exploration, sorting and problem-solving skills to create a 3 dimensional wood sculpture. The process will take several weeks to complete. Drawing, color theory and 3D construction skills will be incorporated with plenty of time for playful building and construction.  Register here

 

TECHNO-ART with Molly Harrington  For students in grades 2-4 (class minimum 10, maximum 15)

Class held on Mondays – dates are 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/25, 3/4, & 3/11

Cost per student is $62.50

The goal of this class is to teach art through various forms of technology – not only how to use it but also how it works! We will explore the art of the selfie, ancient mosaics, working with green screens and more! Students will use different materials, learn new techniques, and bring it all together using technology.  Register here

 

ART MEETS SCIENCE with Janet Nimiroski  For students in grades K-4 (class minimum 10, maximum 15)

Class held on Thursdays – dates are 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/28, 3/7, & 3/14

Cost per student is $62.50

Lets have a blast thinking and acting like the creative, artistic scientists that we already are! Using paints and simple household kitchen items, we’ll create and explore colorful reactions. As a group we will predict outcomes, explore the process of experimentation and examine results. We’ll draw our findings in our journals at the end of each class. Fun projects to include homemade playdough, baking soda and vinegar painting, marbling with oil and water and elephant toothpaste and more!  Register here

 

REGISTRATION BEGINS ON January 7, 2019 and ends January 24, 2019.

Classes require a parent volunteer.  CORE will offer 1/2 off tuition for 1 student of each parent that assists in a class.  All parents are required to have BCI checks in place.  As an assistant you will be responsible to help with snack time, check attendance, assist the teaching artist with distributing supplies, etc., assist students, and coordinate parent pickup at the end of class. To sign up as an assistant in the class please contact Jessica Lynch at jclynchy@gmail.com.  Once Jessica has verified BCI checks you will be able to register your child on coursestorm using a discount code.  Parents will be chosen on a first come first serve basis.

Please have your child bring a nut free snack. All classes run from 3:30pm-5pm, pick up is at the front entrance.
